- Your files are stored in an Online storage and are not configured to be available offline.
- You have a corrupted file that caused Scrble to crash on loading.
Configure your storage location
For the first issue, find your Scribble stored folder and make sure it is configured correctly:
Remove corrupted files that are causing the crash
For the second issue, you will need to find the corrupted file that is causing the app not to crash during loading.
Finding your files
If you selected a store location, your files should be under a folder named Scribble.
If you didn’t select a store location, then your files should be stored in either one of these two locations.
Scrble Ink:
C:\Users\<Your Name>\AppData\Local\Packages\10511ClaudiaWey.inknotespro_9n0kwq747cbjy\LocalState\Scribble
Scrble Lite:
C:\Users\<Your Name>\AppData\Local\Packages\10511ClaudiaWey.ScrbleLite_9n0kwq747cbjy\LocalState\Scribble
Locating the corrupted file
Once you find your store location, look at the files and see if there is some strange file with zero size or a weird name that cannot be viewed properly.
If so, try to move these files to a different location (outside the Scribble folder) and try to relaunch the app.
You can also try moving out all the folders and try to move back in one folder at a time, then launch the app. This should help you locate the file/folder causing the app to crash during startup.
If nothing else works
Ultimately, if neither of those solves your problem, you can try reinstalling the app:
Please email me at mail@scrble.com, and we can further investigate your situation.
First, check your recycle bin. If you find your deleted notes there, you can select and restore them, then relaunch Scrble to access and load the restored content.
If this doesn’t work, another place to look is the temp folder. From your file explorer, navigate to a location that looks like this (replace your username or your drive name):
C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Packages\10511ClaudiaWey.inknotespro_9n0kwq747cbjy\TempState
The files may be in the form of .png and .gif files.
I captured a video that shows how to recover these files into a new document or append them to an existing one
As you see in the video, I changed the paper type to force the resaving at the end, but you can also make a minor edit on the page to force resaving.
Please let me know if this helps, or contact mail@scrble.com to help recover these files.
Are you missing thumbnail images for your notes, as in the screenshot below?
First, find the location where the notes are stored:
Action->Explore Save Location
Are you using OneDrive? If so, make sure the Scribble folder is set to “Always keep on this device” (green check) or the thumbnail is not generated into Scrble.
If not, can you check if the thumbnails are correctly generated in your system?
Look at the thumbnails in your saving folder. Are they correctly generated (as in the image below)?
If so, try to close and reopen Scrble and see if the images get rendered correctly.
Scrble to render the thumbnail from your system, so ensure Windows is set up to generate the thumbnails correctly. You can read this article to learn how to fix the thumbnail in Windows 10.
https://www.windowscentral.com/how-reset-thumbnail-cache-windows-10
Unfortunately, Windows can corrupt the preview files, especially if your file lives in a synchronized location like OneDrive. If so, you can turn on the computed preview setting in Scrble to allow the app to create new thumbnails.
After changing this settings, relaunch Scrble.
The ass did not correctly create some paper files during the first launch. You can force Scrble Ink to recreate these files by following these steps:
- Find the folder “Paper,” which stores these files. It should look something like this
C:\Users\<Your Name>\AppData\Local\Packages\10511ClaudiaWey.ScrbleBeta_9n0kwq747cbjy\LocalState\Paper - Close Scrble Ink
- Delete all the paper files (Scrble Ink will re-create them the next time you run) or copy the attached files into the paper folder.
- Restart Scrble Ink.
- Do a clean boot to isolate software conflicts.
- Uninstall the application.
- Run a Disk cleanup.
- Reinstall the application and check if it works.
Some users cannot install or update the app from the Microsoft Store. In most cases, this can be solved by following these steps:
- Make sure you don’t have any pending OS updates (Setting-Update and Security-Check for updates)
- Try to do a restart disabling fast-startup (you can find the settings here: https://www.screencast.com/t/S4cUExSrt)
- Open the Microsoft Store, and cancel any Scrble Ink installation in progress (press the X). Close the store and reopen it. Then, try to reinstall Scrble Ink.
If the problem persists, please email me at mail@scrble.com, and we can further investigate your situation.
If the images you import or paste may look due to some OS optimization.
To fix this issue, you can zoom in and then zoom out. You should see that the images magically become clear.
Make sure your images look good before saving or exporting.
First, let’s cover the basics: make sure your save option is “Paper background.” The highlighter doesn’t render onto a transparent background.
If you have the right option selected but you are still experiencing the problem, you may be the victim of an issue with the last update. For some unknown reason, when you upgrade to 6.2.30, the highlighter doesn’t get exported to PDF. Resetting the app will solve the problem.
First, open the app Settings, and make sure your Save Location is NOT to the Local App Folder, or you will be losing your data!
Press Ctrl+Shift+R, then select Reset App Data and Exit.
The app should now save the highlighter correctly for new notes.
For existing notes, you will need to force the saving of the pages where the highlighter doesn’t save correctly.
Please email me at mail@scrble.com if you need further assistance.
Do not use Google Drive as a store location for your notes. Google Drive causes Scrble saving to fail and causes loss of changes.
You can use OneDrive or Dropbox instead. Both OneDrive and Dropbox offer save functionality than GoogleDrive, and they work correctly with Scrble. They also have version history, which allows you to recover previous versions or accidentally delete notes.
If you use OneDrive, please select the Scribble folder and set it to Always Keep on this device.
